Gregory Despres

On the evening of April 23rd, 2005 Gregory Despres broke into the home of his neighbors Fred Fulton (74) and Veronica Decarie (70) in Minto, New Brunswik. He gained access by cutting a screen door and then kicking in the second door. Once inside he stabbed them both over 30 times to death. Going as far as to decapitate Fred with a home made sword.

After Despres killed his neighbors he packed up Fred Fulton’s car with weapons and headed towards the US. He later abandoned the vehicle near the Canadian-American border.

Veronica and Fred

On April 25, 2005, one day before the bodies were discovered, Despres arrived at the Calais, Maine, border crossing. He presented himself to the U.S. border guards while carrying a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chainsaw stained with what appeared to be blood. At the border, Despres boasted of being an assassin for the United States government and of having killed 700. Which was strange but there was no knowledge of the murders. Even though he told strange stories and they knew that Depsres had to be in court soon in New Brunswick, the officers still didn’t detain him due to his American Citizenship. I have to read more on that you think they would of just arrested him for that stupid story.

There were however other grounds for possibly detaining Despres that were not acted upon by the border patrol agents. “Joseph Gutheinz, a University of Phoenix criminal justice professor said they could have arrested Despres for lying to a customs officer. The comment about 700 kills should have tipped them that he was not telling the truth, he said.”[2] Gutheinz, a retired Senior Special Agent who had previously served with three Federal agencies also said “if the customs agents wanted to exercise their discretion in regard to a person who they believed might be mentally ill, there was also a non-criminal option. In Maine, as in many states, there is a protective custody statute, which permits law enforcement officers to take into custody individuals they have reasonable grounds to believe may be an imminent threat to themselves or others. This authority to apprehend and process a person is designed to permit a psychological evaluation.

But they let him go and he hitch hiked to Massachusetts. Where he was arrested in a routine stop on the day he had to be in court in New Brunswick. After Fred Fulton’s daughter discovered the bodies and the police had Despres as a suspect. When he got deported to Fredericton on September 15th, 2005 he played the looney act for awhile firing lawyers and making strange claims. Then on July 11, 2007, Despres was brought before the provincial mental health review board which found that he had responded well to treatment and was in fact fit to stand trial. A new trial was promptly ordered.

On March 5, 2008, The judge found Gregory Despres guilty of causing the deaths of Fred Fulton and Verna Decarie in 2005. However, The judge agreed with the defense in finding that Despres was not criminally responsible for his actions at the time. Despres is currently being held at Shepody Healing Centre which is part of the Dorchester Penitentiary. Due to his non-criminal responsibility stemming from delusions caused by paranoid schizophrenia, Despres has his case reviewed by the New Brunswick Mental Health Review Board every two years. Where hopefully he rots forever. To this day they are still having issues with him refusing treatment.

Rachel Mullenix

When Rachel Mullenix was only 16, her and her 21 year old boyfriend Ian Allen stabbed her 56 year old mother Barbara Mullenix to death in Huntington Beach, California on September 13th, 2006. Then dumped her body covered in a bloody blanket with a butter knife sticking out of her eye in Newport Harbor. She had been stabbed more than 50 times with 2 different knives .The most memorable thing about this case that I remember when they aired it on Forensic Files was that they stabbed her mother in the eye with a butter knife (which was lodged in her skull when she was found) and that they identified her mother by her breast implants. Fake boobs apparently are like rolex’s they track them. Good to know.

After the 2 dumped Barbara’s body in the harbor, Rachel and Ian started heading towards Tampa, Florida on Interstate 10. But here stopped in Louisiana. Officers pulled over Allen’s truck and then Rachel ran up to the officers claiming that Allen had kidnapped her and held her against her will. When the detectives split them apart and interviewed Rachel, they did not believe her story at all. They also seen surviellance of the two of them in a convenience store earlier that day. She had plenty of time to escape and moved around freely. She did not look like she was being held against her will on camera. She acted like she was Allen’s girlfriend.

Rachael Scarlett Mullenix- Rachel denied and denied and pointed all the blame at Ian Allen. He in favor did the same. Rachel’s father Bruce still believes that his daughter is innocent. Her and Ian both said the other killed Barbara but they admitted to cleaning up. Rachel also used her mothers alcoholism and abuse towards her as a reason to kill her. She basically couldn’t keep her lies straight. Rachael was born in Oklahoma City in 1989 – the only child of Barbara and Bruce Mullenix – and lived there until she became a teenager. She grew up with her half-brother Alex – Barbara’s son from a prior marriage.

After four days of deliberations, a jury convicted her and sentenced her to 25 years to life.

Ian Westleigh Allen- Ian and Rachel first started dating in May of 2006. At first Rachel;s parents did not approve of the relationship. But Rachael’s parents eventually accepted Allen — even giving him a written permission slip to show authorities that he was allowed to date their daughter, a minor. In return, she needed to abide by her parents’ rules, including a curfew that required her to be home by 1 a.m. On Aug. 31, Rachael didn’t come home. Her mother was frantic. She kept calling her daughter’s cell phone, but there was no answer. She drove over to Allen’s home. The teen was there, sleeping. Barbara dragged Rachael home – then grounded her from seeing her beau. A few days later, Barbara mother relented to Rachael’s pleas and allowed the couple to see a movie.

Allen was later also convicted of first-degree murder and received 25 to life.

Barbara Mullenix.

Rachel’s half brother spoke out about the crime in 2020 saying that Rachel was a victim more than an aggressor. He also claimed about how controlling and horrible his mother was to life with. Hence why he left. The interview is HERE.

Silva Koshwal

Silva Koshwal stabbed his ex-girlfriend more than 100 times and then ripping her heart out and pinning it to a wall with the knife in 2015. Koshwal had previous charges of assaulting the mother of his child and sexual assault on a stranger.

Silva Koshwal had been in a romantic relationship with 38 year old Nadine Skow for 2 years until they broke up in 2014. On the night of August 23rd, 2015 Koshwal was seen buzzing all the buzzers at Skow’s apartment at 107th ave and 108th st trying to gain access. Surveillance cameras also showed Koshwal walking near the apartment the night of the murder.

Silva Moses Koshwal, 38, has a rap sheet dating back to 2006. He was accused of assaulting a woman on May 11, 2006, and was given nine months probation after pleading guilty on Sept. 7, 2006. On March 26, 2010, Koshwal was sentenced to 70 days in jail, followed by nine months of probation, after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a woman on Aug. 29, 2009. He was also ordered by the sentencing judge to submit a DNA sample for the national DNA databank and to register with the national sex offender registry. However, he failed to do the initial registration and was charged with failing to comply with the Sexual Offender Information Registration Act (SOIRA) order. On Oct. 14, 2010, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 days jail. Koshwal was also charged in 2000 with sexual assault and having sexual contact with a child, but on April 11, 2001, following a jury trial, the charges were dismissed. According to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Koshwal was ordered removed from the country for “serious criminality” as a result of the 2010 sexual assault conviction, however that order was stayed by the Immigration and Refugee Board until January 2016. The CBSA said an individual cannot be removed when a temporary stay has been granted unless there is a breach of terms and conditions.

Before Koshwal went in and killed Skow he had entered the apartment of another resident who chased him out with an umbrella. Why she never phoned the cops is beyond me or anyone. But if you know that part of Edmonton its understandable. The lady also heard screams from Skow’s apartment and never phoned police.

The police never did show up to find Nadine instead it was her colleagues who went to check on her when she never showed up for work. When she never answered her buzzer, they were let in by a resident in the building. When they opened the door to Skow’s apartment they found Skow face down covered in blood on the floor. Skow’s internal organs were hanging out and her heart had been nailed to the wall with a large kitchen knife. Someone had wrote the letter A in blood above the heart. Skow had been cut open with her own kitchen knives. She had her heart, ovaries, uterus, and part of her lung had been cut out of her. In an autopsy it was discovered also that Skow had 4 bite marks on her body also.  Out of the 101 stab wounds found on Skow’s body it was believed she was alive for 63 of them. There were 30 defensive wounds on her hands and wrists.

Nadine Skow

Nadine had warned friends that she feared Koshwal would kill her. Nadine worked with disabled youth at a retreat centre. Koshwal turned himself into police on August 25th, 2015 with blood under his fingernails and Skows on a string around his neck.

A “psychologist” said that while Koshwal was fit to stand trial, Koshwal suffers from a complex and extreme form of post-traumatic stress disorder that could have caused him to be in a dissociative state at the time of the crime. The “psychologist” admitted it was difficult to assess Koshwal because he proved to be a “poor historian” of his own life and has cognitive and language difficulties. Though Koshwal could provide few details, a psychologist said he believed Koshwal was exhibiting signs from past trauma suffered as a child in South Sudan.

Koshwal was sentenced to life in prison without parole for 18 years. Canada really needs to do something about its slap on the wrist system.
