Silva Koshwal

Silva Koshwal stabbed his ex-girlfriend more than 100 times and then ripping her heart out and pinning it to a wall with the knife in 2015. Koshwal had previous charges of assaulting the mother of his child and sexual assault on a stranger.

Silva Koshwal had been in a romantic relationship with 38 year old Nadine Skow for 2 years until they broke up in 2014. On the night of August 23rd, 2015 Koshwal was seen buzzing all the buzzers at Skow’s apartment at 107th ave and 108th st trying to gain access. Surveillance cameras also showed Koshwal walking near the apartment the night of the murder.

Silva Moses Koshwal, 38, has a rap sheet dating back to 2006. He was accused of assaulting a woman on May 11, 2006, and was given nine months probation after pleading guilty on Sept. 7, 2006. On March 26, 2010, Koshwal was sentenced to 70 days in jail, followed by nine months of probation, after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a woman on Aug. 29, 2009. He was also ordered by the sentencing judge to submit a DNA sample for the national DNA databank and to register with the national sex offender registry. However, he failed to do the initial registration and was charged with failing to comply with the Sexual Offender Information Registration Act (SOIRA) order. On Oct. 14, 2010, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 days jail. Koshwal was also charged in 2000 with sexual assault and having sexual contact with a child, but on April 11, 2001, following a jury trial, the charges were dismissed. According to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), Koshwal was ordered removed from the country for “serious criminality” as a result of the 2010 sexual assault conviction, however that order was stayed by the Immigration and Refugee Board until January 2016. The CBSA said an individual cannot be removed when a temporary stay has been granted unless there is a breach of terms and conditions.

Before Koshwal went in and killed Skow he had entered the apartment of another resident who chased him out with an umbrella. Why she never phoned the cops is beyond me or anyone. But if you know that part of Edmonton its understandable. The lady also heard screams from Skow’s apartment and never phoned police.

The police never did show up to find Nadine instead it was her colleagues who went to check on her when she never showed up for work. When she never answered her buzzer, they were let in by a resident in the building. When they opened the door to Skow’s apartment they found Skow face down covered in blood on the floor. Skow’s internal organs were hanging out and her heart had been nailed to the wall with a large kitchen knife. Someone had wrote the letter A in blood above the heart. Skow had been cut open with her own kitchen knives. She had her heart, ovaries, uterus, and part of her lung had been cut out of her. In an autopsy it was discovered also that Skow had 4 bite marks on her body also.  Out of the 101 stab wounds found on Skow’s body it was believed she was alive for 63 of them. There were 30 defensive wounds on her hands and wrists.

Nadine Skow

Nadine had warned friends that she feared Koshwal would kill her. Nadine worked with disabled youth at a retreat centre. Koshwal turned himself into police on August 25th, 2015 with blood under his fingernails and Skows on a string around his neck.

A “psychologist” said that while Koshwal was fit to stand trial, Koshwal suffers from a complex and extreme form of post-traumatic stress disorder that could have caused him to be in a dissociative state at the time of the crime. The “psychologist” admitted it was difficult to assess Koshwal because he proved to be a “poor historian” of his own life and has cognitive and language difficulties. Though Koshwal could provide few details, a psychologist said he believed Koshwal was exhibiting signs from past trauma suffered as a child in South Sudan.

Koshwal was sentenced to life in prison without parole for 18 years. Canada really needs to do something about its slap on the wrist system.
