Gregory Despres

On the evening of April 23rd, 2005 Gregory Despres broke into the home of his neighbors Fred Fulton (74) and Veronica Decarie (70) in Minto, New Brunswik. He gained access by cutting a screen door and then kicking in the second door. Once inside he stabbed them both over 30 times to death. Going as far as to decapitate Fred with a home made sword.

After Despres killed his neighbors he packed up Fred Fulton’s car with weapons and headed towards the US. He later abandoned the vehicle near the Canadian-American border.

Veronica and Fred

On April 25, 2005, one day before the bodies were discovered, Despres arrived at the Calais, Maine, border crossing. He presented himself to the U.S. border guards while carrying a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chainsaw stained with what appeared to be blood. At the border, Despres boasted of being an assassin for the United States government and of having killed 700. Which was strange but there was no knowledge of the murders. Even though he told strange stories and they knew that Depsres had to be in court soon in New Brunswick, the officers still didn’t detain him due to his American Citizenship. I have to read more on that you think they would of just arrested him for that stupid story.

There were however other grounds for possibly detaining Despres that were not acted upon by the border patrol agents. “Joseph Gutheinz, a University of Phoenix criminal justice professor said they could have arrested Despres for lying to a customs officer. The comment about 700 kills should have tipped them that he was not telling the truth, he said.”[2] Gutheinz, a retired Senior Special Agent who had previously served with three Federal agencies also said “if the customs agents wanted to exercise their discretion in regard to a person who they believed might be mentally ill, there was also a non-criminal option. In Maine, as in many states, there is a protective custody statute, which permits law enforcement officers to take into custody individuals they have reasonable grounds to believe may be an imminent threat to themselves or others. This authority to apprehend and process a person is designed to permit a psychological evaluation.

But they let him go and he hitch hiked to Massachusetts. Where he was arrested in a routine stop on the day he had to be in court in New Brunswick. After Fred Fulton’s daughter discovered the bodies and the police had Despres as a suspect. When he got deported to Fredericton on September 15th, 2005 he played the looney act for awhile firing lawyers and making strange claims. Then on July 11, 2007, Despres was brought before the provincial mental health review board which found that he had responded well to treatment and was in fact fit to stand trial. A new trial was promptly ordered.

On March 5, 2008, The judge found Gregory Despres guilty of causing the deaths of Fred Fulton and Verna Decarie in 2005. However, The judge agreed with the defense in finding that Despres was not criminally responsible for his actions at the time. Despres is currently being held at Shepody Healing Centre which is part of the Dorchester Penitentiary. Due to his non-criminal responsibility stemming from delusions caused by paranoid schizophrenia, Despres has his case reviewed by the New Brunswick Mental Health Review Board every two years. Where hopefully he rots forever. To this day they are still having issues with him refusing treatment.

Andrew Lackey

Andrew Reid Lackey (October 29, 1983 – July 25, 2013) was a deranged man who murdered 80 year old World War 2 vet Charles Newman on October 31st, 2005 in Limestone County, Alabama. Lackey broke into the seniors home as he heard from the mans grandson their were gold bars in a safe. It is believed that Newman actually grabbed a gun and shot Lackey, but he defended himself by stabbing the 80 year old man 70 times. Then just to make sure he was dead Lackey shot him in the chest with his own gun. Lackey drove to a store where he called an ambulance for his stupid ass.

Newman made a call to 911 on the night of the murder, in which he could be heard saying, “Don’t do that,” ”Leave me alone” and “What do you want?” Lackey could be heard repeatedly asking, “Where’s the vault?” according to court records.

Lackey was charged with capital murder and some lawyer tried to say he had that fake disease autism. It wasn’t bought and he was sentenced to death. Then when Lackey tried to kill himself in prison someone tried to say he had assburgers??? Lol. Again not bought. Then they injected him with juice killing him on July 25th, 2013 but not before he ate a bologna sandwich and some fries. He said nothing for his final words.

Melissa Ivy Chaboyer

Melissa Ivy Chaboyer was a 35 year old single metis woman with a 17 year old son, Anthony. She was also the mother to 20-30 foster children over the last 10 years. Known to her friends as Lissa she would care for the foster children even when they were older and moved out. She also loved spending time with her family at the family cottage. Melissa worked full time with mentally challenged adults. She also worked part time as a taxi driver in Thompson, Manitoba, Canada to get extra money for Christmas time.

On Friday night November 25th, 2005 Melissa just finished visiting her mother and getting ready to start the graveyard shift driving cab. Thompson has a reputation of being the most violent city in Canada. (Thompson has had the honor of that name three years in a row and counting) Just after midnight on the early hours of November 26th she had a call at the Thompson Arena.

Several minutes later, Melissa called her dispatch and said she was going to stop at the Ramada Hotel (now called The Burntwood Hotel)- a standard two-storey establishment at the intersection of Cree Road, with a green roof, green awnings, and a sports bar called the Regal Beagle Tavern. The hotel was only a 1.2 km drive from the Arena. It was never known if Melissa went to the arena and picked up passengers or not.

What happened next is unknown. Melissa Ivy Chaboyer was found stabbed to death in the cold morning of November 26th, 2005. Melissa’s killers fled on foot east along a parking lot at City Centre Mall. Just before 1 am another taxi driver drove by and seen Melissa’s cab. Soon after her body was found on the pavement outside of her cab. Melissa was known to be kind and one to probably not get too angry if someone had money to pay. So what was the motive? As a result of Melissa’s murder all cabs in Thompson are now equipped with cameras.

The main focus of the murder was robbery. Melissa would of known to have had hundreds of dollars on her on a Saturday morning.

15 years later and the murder is not solved.
