Mike MacKool and Leslie Ballard

Leslie Ballard lived a privileged life. Her parents Les and Janie Ballard ran a successful printing business in Little Rock, Arkansas and paid for her master’s degree, her condo, her cars, and her vacations. Then she met and married Mike MacKool who was 23 years older than her!!!! He also had numerous ex-wives. It didn’t take Leslie’s parents too long to figure out that Mike MacKool (who was far from cool) was just using their daughter for her money. It didn’t hurt that she was quite attractive which for a dork looking guy like Mike MacKool has many people baffled what she seen in a loser like him.

Her parents eventually ended up supporting her less while she was married to Mike. When Leslie’s father died in his will she only received $25,000 of his multi million dollar estate. The majority obviously went to her mother.

Leslie and Mike then came up with a plan to kill Leslie’s mother. Believing that if Janie Ballard died within 30 days of her fathers death she would automatically inherit all the money. Which was false as Mike Mackool has issues reading and understanding.

Jeanie Ballard

On September 12th, 2003 Leslie went to her mothers home. She waited in the bushes with a wig and black face for almost 20 minutes until her mother came home. When she arrived Leslie stabbed her mother Janie over 70 times. Her throat had also been slit in what appeared to be attempt at decapitation. She also took a car, a coin collection, and jewelry to make it look like a robbery. She dressed in all black to appear like a black male, then dumped the get away car in a black neighborhood. As bad of an attempt as that was it was pointless as the police already knew of them as suspects the second they found Jeanie Ballard dead. Jeanie had told numerous people that she feared Leslie and Mike would kill her for her money.

Leslie and Mike were arrested for Janie Ballard’s murder. They were interviewed separately. Mike denied the whole thing, while Leslie admitted to the crime right away saying she was forced to do it by Mike Mackool.

While Leslie was cracking to the police and Mike was panicking in the hallway of the police station, he snapped and barricaded himself in a police interview room where he slit his wrists. The police had to use pepper spray to enter the room. (Should of left the tough guy in there).

She pleaded not guilty to a mental disorder.

Mike was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Bradley Martin & Carolyn King

Bradley Martin (21) met Carolyn King(27), a married mother of 4, when he was working for a prison release program at a Candy Factory they both worked at. The 2 even had Conjugal visits. He was in prison for a parole violation. One day he went out on work release but never returned back to prison.

Guy Goodman

On September 25, 1993, police made a welfare check at the Lebanon County, Pennsylvania home of Guy Goodman, 74, a community-minded retired florist who’d not been seen in several days. Inside it smelt instantly of death. There was blood and pieces of broken glass all over the floor. In the basement the police discovered the decomposing body of Goodman. He had been strangled with extension cords and had a plastic bag tied around his head. He had been dead for over a week. There was no signs of a break in and 3 empty coffee cups on the kitchen table appearing like he had guests. His credit card and vehicle were missing. When police dusted the place for prints. A print of 21 year old Bradley Martin came up.

The police put out an APB for Martin and King not knowing if King had been kidnapped by Martin or left her family on her own will. When police questioned her husband he says he hadn’t spoke to his wife in weeks. Police also later found out that there was a connection between Martin and Goodman as Goodman mentored Martin in a program for troubled youth.

On September 27th, 1993 the police had found out that Goodman’s credit card was used in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and most recently South Dakota. The last point they found it used in was a hotel in Bismarck, North Dakota. At that place another person a tourist bus company worker named Donna Martz (59) went missing. When police found Goodman’s car abandoned authorities figured they were now using Donna Martz’s car.

On October 5th, 1993 A California Highway Patrol officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of Martz’s car outside of San Diego. When the officer got close enough to the vehicle he identified the people in the car as King and Martin. The chase ended when the car got into a little accident and the two were arrested. There was no sign of Donna Martz and neither of the suspects were talking. Later to save her own ass King of course claimed that she stayed with Martin as she feared for her life. Martin agreed with her and went along with her story. But police doubted she was unwilling as security footage showed her using the cards and checks by herself with plenty of time to escape or tell someone.

Eventually, Martin and King cooperated with police and drew a map of where Martz was shot. Her body was recovered and brought home to her family. What Martin and King did was lock Martz in her trunk while alive, then went shopping with her credit cards in Elko, Nevada, then drove her to the middle of the desert and shot her in the head.

Martin and King were both charged with kidnapping and two counts of first degree murder. They were brought back to Pennsylvania and awaited trial. On October 11, 1994 they were each found guilty and sentenced to death. Martin and King were later resentenced to life without parole.
