Mike MacKool and Leslie Ballard

Leslie Ballard lived a privileged life. Her parents Les and Janie Ballard ran a successful printing business in Little Rock, Arkansas and paid for her master’s degree, her condo, her cars, and her vacations. Then she met and married Mike MacKool who was 23 years older than her!!!! He also had numerous ex-wives. It didn’t take Leslie’s parents too long to figure out that Mike MacKool (who was far from cool) was just using their daughter for her money. It didn’t hurt that she was quite attractive which for a dork looking guy like Mike MacKool has many people baffled what she seen in a loser like him.

Her parents eventually ended up supporting her less while she was married to Mike. When Leslie’s father died in his will she only received $25,000 of his multi million dollar estate. The majority obviously went to her mother.

Leslie and Mike then came up with a plan to kill Leslie’s mother. Believing that if Janie Ballard died within 30 days of her fathers death she would automatically inherit all the money. Which was false as Mike Mackool has issues reading and understanding.

Jeanie Ballard

On September 12th, 2003 Leslie went to her mothers home. She waited in the bushes with a wig and black face for almost 20 minutes until her mother came home. When she arrived Leslie stabbed her mother Janie over 70 times. Her throat had also been slit in what appeared to be attempt at decapitation. She also took a car, a coin collection, and jewelry to make it look like a robbery. She dressed in all black to appear like a black male, then dumped the get away car in a black neighborhood. As bad of an attempt as that was it was pointless as the police already knew of them as suspects the second they found Jeanie Ballard dead. Jeanie had told numerous people that she feared Leslie and Mike would kill her for her money.

Leslie and Mike were arrested for Janie Ballard’s murder. They were interviewed separately. Mike denied the whole thing, while Leslie admitted to the crime right away saying she was forced to do it by Mike Mackool.

While Leslie was cracking to the police and Mike was panicking in the hallway of the police station, he snapped and barricaded himself in a police interview room where he slit his wrists. The police had to use pepper spray to enter the room. (Should of left the tough guy in there).

She pleaded not guilty to a mental disorder.

Mike was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to 45 years in prison.

Septic Tank Sam

UPDATE JUNE 29th, 2021

A man whose death in Alberta has fascinated armchair detectives for years has finally been identified by the RCMP using genetic genealogy, The Fifth Estate has learned. The victim, whose name is expected to be released on Wednesday, was nicknamed Septic Tank Sam by the RCMP after he was found in a septic tank at a rural farm just outside Tofield, Alta., on April 13, 1977. The farm was owned by Mavis and Charlie McLeod, both now deceased.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/septic-tank-sam-killed-1977-1.6083537

June 6th, 2021

Its probably a good thing this guy is dead or at least I hope he did something really bad to get death the way he got. Because the name “Septic Tank Sam” Is a Shitty Nick Name.

Septic Tank Sam is the nickname given to an unidentified murder victim who was found in a septic tank thirteen kilometres (8.1 mi) west of Tofield, Alberta on April 12th, 1977. RCMP believe he may have been murdered as early as April 1976. Authorities suspect he was not from Alberta, but most likely worked as a migrant worker. If the victim was from the area, odds are there would have been a missing person’s report on him or a close family member would have reported him missing so police surmised he was a transient. However, they can’t be certain because the victim was never identified. Sam was found wearing a blue Levi shirt with snap buttons, a gray t-shirt, blue jeans, and imitation Wallabee shoes. His decomposed body was wrapped in a yellow bed sheet and tied up with a nylon rope. Sam was found by a local couple scavenging their abandoned property for a septic tank pump. After seeing his leg bobbing in their old septic tank, they alerted the Tofield Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment. Two officers came to the scene to recover Sam’s body, where they spent an hour emptying the 1.8 meter deep septic tank with empty ice cream pails.

A medical examiner in Edmonton determined Sam to be a white guy although another medical examiner in Oklahoma said he could of been native. If you have been to that region of Alberta its all white or native so that doesn’t narrow it down that much. Retired RCMP Sgt. Jim Warren, who was a junior constable at the Tofield detachment in 1979 and worked on the file, said that if the victim was from a northern Native village, his family may not have seen the sketch. His bones and teeth suggested he suffered from an unspecified illness at five years old. Sam’s cause of death was two gunshots to the head and chest, although it was possible there could have been more if any of the bullets did not reach his skeleton. Before his death, Sam had been tortured; he had been beaten, tied up, burned with a small butane torch and cigarettes, and sexually mutilated with farm shears. The sexual mutilation was so severe that the medical examiner took several months to positively identify him as a male. Based on the burn marks on his shirt sleeves, Sam could have been tied to a bed while tortured. After Sam’s death, he had been covered in quicklime, most likely in an attempt to hasten decomposition. RCMP investigating the case described the murder as one of the most vindictive and sadistic they had ever seen. Forty-two years later the murder remains an unsolved Alberta cold case.

Due to a lack of evidence in the septic tank, Sam was most likely murdered elsewhere and the septic tank was only a dumpsite. Sam’s murderers are believed to have known him, due to how viciously he had been killed. It is also suspected Sam’s murderers were Tofield locals or were familiar with the area, due to the location of Sam’s dumpsite being on a rural property. Some Tofield and area residents thought criminals or drug dealers from Edmonton used the Lindbrook septic tank to dump the body. Others believed the killer was someone local. They surmised who else but someone local knew about the abandoned septic tank? After all, the septic tank was hidden in a remote area on a two-and-half-acre lot off what was then Hwy 14. They said what were the chances of criminals from Edmonton finding a barely visible septic tank? Besides, Wye Road – from Sherwood Park to Lindbrook – has many spots with miles and miles of only thick trees and muskeg, perfect for dumping and hiding a body. Back in 1977, the deserted stretch of highway was even less populated with more locations for criminals/drug dealers from Edmonton to dump a body. They didn’t have to drive about 45 minutes to Lindbrook and increase the risk of being caught. Still, Sgt. Lammerts said if someone from Edmonton dumped the body in Lindbrook, then perhaps the killer(s) went to the area first looking for a dumpsite before committing the crime.

Sam’s body has been exhumed from his unmarked grave in an Edmonton cemetery twice. In 1979, Sam’s remains were flown out to Clyde Snow and Betty Gatliff, Forensic anthropologist and medical illustrator at the Federal Aviation Administration in Oklahoma who had been creating 3D facial composites from skulls since 1967. Along with creating a facial composite for Sam, the two could tell by measuring his hands that he was right-handed. Snow believed Sam to be of Indigenous origin and around 35 years old, contradicting the RCMP’s belief of Sam being a European Canadian and between 26 and 32. Sam was exhumed and reconstructed for the second time in 2000 by Cyril Chan, who was with the Edmonton medical examiner’s office at the time.

The 1,200 residents of Tofield at the time were horrified to hear of Sam’s murder. Farmers checked their own septic tanks for bodies and business owners worried that Sam’s murderers could have been regular customers. Many speculated Sam had been sexually mutilated due to committing a sex crime or being unfaithful in a relationship. Ed Lammerts, one of the officers who helped recover Sam’s body, has since retired. He believes Sam will never be identified, despite sending X-rays of Sam’s teeth to 800 Albertan dentists coupled with publishing them in dental magazines, and spending $1,000,000 CAD on the case.

  • He still had all of his teeth, some fillings, and had signs of recent dental work.
  • Medium build.
  • Dark hair.
  • His eye color is unknown.
  • Measurements of his hands suggested he was right-handed.

David John Gorton

On Sept. 19, 1997: David John Gorton believing that his fiance Heidi Challand (28) was cheating on him “snapped”. Heidi and her four young children (Robert, 12, David, 9, Calvin, 6 and Jewel, 2) were bludgeoned to death with an axe in their Black Creek home on Vancouver Island. The murdered children were not Gorton’s, but he did have two young children living in Victoria. The bodies were also discovered by Gorton’s parents who were in from Nanaimo to visit.

This was not Gorton’s first violent outburst either. In 1977 he lured his 16 year old girlfriend to a out of the way spot and stabbed her 19 times. She was in the hospital for a month. Then in 1983 he attacked his then wife with a knife and served 2 years in prison for aggravated assault.

Gorton was on the run for a few days until the police found him very close to home in a motel room in Courtenay, BC.

He was later convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison with no parole for at least 25 years.

Gregory Despres

On the evening of April 23rd, 2005 Gregory Despres broke into the home of his neighbors Fred Fulton (74) and Veronica Decarie (70) in Minto, New Brunswik. He gained access by cutting a screen door and then kicking in the second door. Once inside he stabbed them both over 30 times to death. Going as far as to decapitate Fred with a home made sword.

After Despres killed his neighbors he packed up Fred Fulton’s car with weapons and headed towards the US. He later abandoned the vehicle near the Canadian-American border.

Veronica and Fred

On April 25, 2005, one day before the bodies were discovered, Despres arrived at the Calais, Maine, border crossing. He presented himself to the U.S. border guards while carrying a homemade sword, a hatchet, a knife, brass knuckles and a chainsaw stained with what appeared to be blood. At the border, Despres boasted of being an assassin for the United States government and of having killed 700. Which was strange but there was no knowledge of the murders. Even though he told strange stories and they knew that Depsres had to be in court soon in New Brunswick, the officers still didn’t detain him due to his American Citizenship. I have to read more on that you think they would of just arrested him for that stupid story.

There were however other grounds for possibly detaining Despres that were not acted upon by the border patrol agents. “Joseph Gutheinz, a University of Phoenix criminal justice professor said they could have arrested Despres for lying to a customs officer. The comment about 700 kills should have tipped them that he was not telling the truth, he said.”[2] Gutheinz, a retired Senior Special Agent who had previously served with three Federal agencies also said “if the customs agents wanted to exercise their discretion in regard to a person who they believed might be mentally ill, there was also a non-criminal option. In Maine, as in many states, there is a protective custody statute, which permits law enforcement officers to take into custody individuals they have reasonable grounds to believe may be an imminent threat to themselves or others. This authority to apprehend and process a person is designed to permit a psychological evaluation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregory_Despres

But they let him go and he hitch hiked to Massachusetts. Where he was arrested in a routine stop on the day he had to be in court in New Brunswick. After Fred Fulton’s daughter discovered the bodies and the police had Despres as a suspect. When he got deported to Fredericton on September 15th, 2005 he played the looney act for awhile firing lawyers and making strange claims. Then on July 11, 2007, Despres was brought before the provincial mental health review board which found that he had responded well to treatment and was in fact fit to stand trial. A new trial was promptly ordered.

On March 5, 2008, The judge found Gregory Despres guilty of causing the deaths of Fred Fulton and Verna Decarie in 2005. However, The judge agreed with the defense in finding that Despres was not criminally responsible for his actions at the time. Despres is currently being held at Shepody Healing Centre which is part of the Dorchester Penitentiary. Due to his non-criminal responsibility stemming from delusions caused by paranoid schizophrenia, Despres has his case reviewed by the New Brunswick Mental Health Review Board every two years. Where hopefully he rots forever. To this day they are still having issues with him refusing treatment.

Johnson Aziga

Johnson Aziga (born 1956) is a Ugandan man living in Canada formerly residing in Hamilton, Ontario. He is the first person to be charged and convicted of first-degree murder in Canada for spreading HIV, after two women whom he had infected without their knowledge died. Aziga worked at the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General.

He was diagnosed with HIV in 1996. Aziga was married at the time too. But he used protection with his wife who knew he was HIV positive. But once they got divorced he did not feel the need to tell the next 11 women he slept with an infected. (odds are its more). He has confessed to having 50-100 sexual partners during this period, all of them white. He met most of his victims at bars and clubs in the Hamilton area, and many of them had unprotected sex with other HIV-positive African men. Seven of these women later tested positive for HIV, two of them died of complications from AIDS in December 2003 and May 2004. Health officials and law enforcement were allegedly aware of Aziga’s pattern of intentionally spreading HIV but did not take action until 2003 for unknown reasons.? It’s just as equally the womens fault too. These guys are from HIV hotspot countries.

Aziga was arrested in 2003. His trial did not start until 2008. On April 4, 2009, Aziga was found guilty of two counts of murder in the first degree, 10 counts of aggravated sexual assault, and one count of attempted aggravated sexual assault by a jury made up of nine men and three women at Hamilton Superior Court. On August 2, 2011, a court in Hamilton, Ont. granted a request by Crown Prosecutors to have Johnson Aziga jailed indefinitely under the Dangerous Offender act, because he is believed to be at a high risk to re-offend

Jeffrey Arenburg

On August 1st, 1995 44 year old Jeffrey Arenburg went to CJOH Media in Ottawa, Ontario and shot and killed sports broadcaster Brian Smith. Arenburg’s reason he thought the radio station was broadcasting messages in his head. Brian Smith just had the unfortunate luck of being the first one Arenburg seen. Oh if you couldn’t tell Jeffrey Arenburg be a paranoid schizophrenic, who would of thought???He had reportedly been exhibiting symptoms of schizophrenia for some time but was not officially diagnosed until 1990. At some point he began to believe that his ex-wife and her family were “torturing” him by broadcasting his thoughts on radio and television. Arenburg was hospitalized in 1990 after stating to authorities in court that his former in laws were stealing his thoughts and selling them to Hollywood.?

Arenburg Outside an Ottawa Homeless Shelter in 2014

Following the shooting when police searched Arenburg’s apartment they found a list of media personnel in the Ottawa area.

In 1992 Arenburg assaulted a radio station manager in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia where he lived working as a scallop fisherman. He was given either a $300 fine or 2 weeks in jail. He never showed up for trial and skipped town and moved to Ottawa.

Arenburg was found not criminally responsible in Smith’s death, due to his mental condition. In 2001, the Ontario Review Board began to grant Arenburg 72-hour release. He applied for full conditional release in 2004. As of June 2005 he had been living in the Barrie area with his brother since March 2003, and had recently graduated from a community college.

He is reformed. What could possibly go wrong?

On November 29, 2007, Arenburg was arrested after assaulting a U.S. customs officer in Buffalo, New York at the Peace Bridge International Crossing. According to officials, Arenburg attempted to enter the United States on a commercial vehicle as a passenger and was denied entry due to past criminal convictions. When they sat him down in the interview room he punched one of the border officers and busted open his lip. He spent a year in American jail until he got deported back to Canada.

??????

In 2012, Arenburg was arrested when he fled the scene after being pulled-over for speeding in Quebec. He was sentenced to six months in jail after calling the Judge an idiot.???

Aurenburg died June 13th, 2017 in Ottawa, Ontario of an apparent heart attack at the age of 60.

Li Ang

The arrests for Amanda Zhao’s murder took many years to complete, and responsibility was found to be mainly because the Canadian government is reluctant in giving evidence of murder cases to China, as Chinese authorities allow for capital punishment for murder, which is illegal in Canada.

Li Ang, Reports Girlfriend Missing to Police, 3 Days Later Boards Plane To China While Hikers Find Her Dead Body In A Suitcase.

Amanda Zhao Wei  (1981 – October 2002) was a Chinese student in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, studying English at Coquitlam College who was murdered in October 2002. She was reported missing on October 9, 2002, by her boyfriend Li Ang and her body was found inside a suitcase by hikers near Stave Lake on October 20, 2002, where an autopsy revealed that Zhao had been strangled to death

Zhao’s boyfriend Li Ang was immediately a suspect but arrests in China took until 2004 and they released Li Ang due to lack of evidence. Li Ang claimed that he had killed Zhao in a play like pillow fight.? In 2009, police in China arrested Li based on evidence provided by the RCMP showing an autopsy determined she had been strangled. It took 10 years but finally Li Ang was sentenced to life in prison in 2012, which was later dropped to a 7 year sentence. Li Ang was a Chinese national and a computer science student at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. Another man Zhang Han who is Li Ang’s cousin was also arrested. He helped dispose of the body and helped Li Ang travel back to China. All charges were later dropped against Zhang Han because his confession was improperly obtained. Sounds more like they just didn’t want to fill out paper work with China.

Thomas Kosberg

Thomas Gordon Kosberg was born October 2nd, 1948 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Tom as he went by, had a history of mental illness, but no one could imagine him plotting a murder, let along killing his own family. Thomas Kosberg, who, by most accounts, seemed like a normal teenager in a large family. A neighbour even remarked that the family “had the nicest, most beautiful children.”

On December 9, 1965, 17-year-old Kosberg made chocolate milkshakes for his mother, father, and four younger brothers and sisters, added some sleeping pills, waited for them to go to bed, and then hacked them to death with an axe. Only a baby survived. But there was some obvious planning put into the murders. Tom’s mother had been entertaining her best friend Florence the night before the murder. Sometime around 11pm, Florence left to go home. Thomas waited for Florence to leave and for his father to return home from his late shift at the Allied Heat and Fuel Co. (roughly 1am) before committing the murders. There was also a large span of time between the murders and when they were reported (from 1am-7:45am).

After the murders Kosberg changed his clothes, took his father’s car, and ran it into a power pole, whereupon he stole another car, and finally telephoned Robert Estergaard, who took him to Dr. Wong. According to Estergaard, Kosberg was trembling, having cramps, and kept holding his stomach, but at times would also drift off to sleep. They arrived at Dr. Wong’s at 7 a.m., where Kosberg confessed to the crime, stating that he had “done someting awful.” Wong called the police at 7:45 a.m. and Kosberg was arrested shortly afterwards

When officers arrived at the crime scene they found Mr. and Mrs. Kosberg dead in their beds, while their son Vincent lay dead on the floor, and Osborne jr. was in his crib, apparently unharmed. In the rear bedroom they discovered the body of Barry, and in the front bedroom that of Gayle Kosberg. Marianne, who was in the same room as Gayle, was still alive in her bed, but with serious head injuries. She was taken to hospital in critical condition, where she underwent emergency surgery, and eventually died on December 19, without regaining consciousness.

The court ruled that he was not guilty by reason of insanity in 1967, and Tom was shipped off to Riverview. He was released 12 years later, married and worked at Vancouver Children’s Hospital for the next 30 years. He died in 2016.

Bradley Martin & Carolyn King

Bradley Martin (21) met Carolyn King(27), a married mother of 4, when he was working for a prison release program at a Candy Factory they both worked at. The 2 even had Conjugal visits. He was in prison for a parole violation. One day he went out on work release but never returned back to prison.

Guy Goodman

On September 25, 1993, police made a welfare check at the Lebanon County, Pennsylvania home of Guy Goodman, 74, a community-minded retired florist who’d not been seen in several days. Inside it smelt instantly of death. There was blood and pieces of broken glass all over the floor. In the basement the police discovered the decomposing body of Goodman. He had been strangled with extension cords and had a plastic bag tied around his head. He had been dead for over a week. There was no signs of a break in and 3 empty coffee cups on the kitchen table appearing like he had guests. His credit card and vehicle were missing. When police dusted the place for prints. A print of 21 year old Bradley Martin came up.

The police put out an APB for Martin and King not knowing if King had been kidnapped by Martin or left her family on her own will. When police questioned her husband he says he hadn’t spoke to his wife in weeks. Police also later found out that there was a connection between Martin and Goodman as Goodman mentored Martin in a program for troubled youth.

On September 27th, 1993 the police had found out that Goodman’s credit card was used in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and most recently South Dakota. The last point they found it used in was a hotel in Bismarck, North Dakota. At that place another person a tourist bus company worker named Donna Martz (59) went missing. When police found Goodman’s car abandoned authorities figured they were now using Donna Martz’s car.

On October 5th, 1993 A California Highway Patrol officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of Martz’s car outside of San Diego. When the officer got close enough to the vehicle he identified the people in the car as King and Martin. The chase ended when the car got into a little accident and the two were arrested. There was no sign of Donna Martz and neither of the suspects were talking. Later to save her own ass King of course claimed that she stayed with Martin as she feared for her life. Martin agreed with her and went along with her story. But police doubted she was unwilling as security footage showed her using the cards and checks by herself with plenty of time to escape or tell someone.

Eventually, Martin and King cooperated with police and drew a map of where Martz was shot. Her body was recovered and brought home to her family. What Martin and King did was lock Martz in her trunk while alive, then went shopping with her credit cards in Elko, Nevada, then drove her to the middle of the desert and shot her in the head.

Martin and King were both charged with kidnapping and two counts of first degree murder. They were brought back to Pennsylvania and awaited trial. On October 11, 1994 they were each found guilty and sentenced to death. Martin and King were later resentenced to life without parole.

Thomas Dillon

Thomas Lee Dillon (July 9, 1950 – October 21, 2011) was an unhappily married father of one and a draftsman for a municipal water department known as a loner. He and his family lived a quiet life in a middle-class ranch house in southern Stark County’s Pike Township. He was also an American serial killer who shot and killed five men in southeastern Ohio like he was hunting, beginning April 1, 1989 and continuing until April 1992. One of the men he shot and killed was on federal property. He literally drove around country back roads shooting random people minding their own business for no apparent reason. Dillon was also known to have a temper and a neighbor even accused him of killing their dog.

Dillon only had 2 previous encounters with the law. in 1969 he was investigated for owning a military weapon. Then in 1991 he was fined $200 for illegal target practice. Dillion also bought numerous weapons from a co worker who had a federal firearms license.

In 1992 an old friend who met up with Dillon figured he might be the one committing all the murders and reported him to police. Thomas Dillon was arrested on a weapons charge on November 27, 1992, and he was placed under probation. They tracked where he was going even going as far as having air surveillance on him at times. One officer trailing him witnessed him shoot signs, shoot and kill cows, and even seen him stop pick up a large rock and throw it through the windshield of a car on the side of the road with a for sale sign on it. Officials believe Dillon killed numerous cattle in east-central Ohio

Victims.

They arrested him leaving a convenience store. They were not sure if they had enough to make a conviction stick. But after searching his residents ballistic tests matched bullets to guns that he owned.

After the death penalty was removed as an option for punishment, Dillon admitted to the killings. Dillon pleaded guilty to the five murders. Dillon was incarcerated at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility for five consecutive sentences of thirty years until he died of cancer.

In July 1993, Dillon admitted to setting 160 fires and committing other acts of vandalism in Eastern Ohio during the preceding five years.  Noble County Sheriff Landon Smith estimated that Dillon’s fires caused more than $2 million in damages.

A Letter apparently wrote to the paper by Dillon after a victims mother wrote a letter to the paper missing her son.

“I am the murderer of Jamie Paxton.  Jamie Paxton was a complete stranger to me.  I never saw him before in my life, and he never said a word to me that Saturday.

“Paxton was killed because of an irresistible compulsion that has taken over my life.  I knew when I left my house that day that someone would die by my hand.  I just didn’t know who or where.  Technically I meet the definition of a serial killer, but I’m an average-looking person with a family, job and home just like yourself.

“Something in my head causes me to turn into a merciless killer with no conscience.  To the Paxtons, you deserve to know the details.

“I was very drunk and a voice inside my head said, ‘do it.’  I stopped my car behind Jamie’s and got out.  Jamie started walking very slowly down the hill toward the road.  He appeared to be looking past me at something in the distance.

“I raised my rifle to my shoulder and lined him up in the sights.  It took at least five seconds to take careful aim.  My first shot was off a little bit and hit him in the right chest.   He groaned and went down.  I wanted to make sure he was finished so I fired a second shot aimed half way between his hip and shoulder.  He was crawling around on the ground.  I jerked the shot, and hit him in the knee.  He raised his head and groaned again.  My third shot also missed and hit him in the butt.  He never moved again.

“Five minutes after I shot Paxton, I was drinking a beer and had blocked out all thoughts of what I had just done out of my mind.  I thought no more of shooting Paxton than shooting a bottle at the dump.

“I know you hate my guts, and rightfully so.  I think about Jamie every hour of the day, as I am sure you do.

“Don’t feel bad about not solving this case.  You could interview till doomsday everyone that Jamie Paxton ever met in his life and you wouldn’t have a clue to my identity.  With no motive, no weapon, and no witnesses you could not possibly solve this crime.”

The letter was signed, “The murderer of Jamie Paxton.”
